This page is a draft. Counsel has not reviewed it yet, and the wording may change before it is final.
What happens to the text I check?
Our detector scores the text in memory and de-identifies any personal information for additional training.
Does anyone read what I submit?
No one reviews your text as part of the product. It passes through the detectors to produce a result.
Is my text used to train your detectors?
Yes. We de-identify any personal information first, then use the text for additional training of our detector.
Do you send my text anywhere else?
Only on a deep check. A deep check sends up to 8 sentences from the text to Google (Gemini, in our own cloud project) to be judged, and search words drawn from them to the Wikimedia Foundation (Wikipedia search). The titles in its reference list go to Crossref and OpenAlex. We never send your text to another company's AI detector.
Which companies handle my data?
Firebase Authentication, a Google service, handles sign-in with Google or with an email and password, and stores your email address for us. A deep check sends up to 8 sentences from your text to Google, through Gemini on Google Cloud's Vertex AI in our own project, which judges each sentence against passages found for it. There is no separate consent step. A deep check does not use Google Search. Search words drawn from those sentences go to the Wikimedia Foundation (Wikipedia search) and, for cited papers, to Crossref and OpenAlex. A sentence written in the first person is never looked up, and nothing containing a digit, an email address or a web address goes into a search. The titles in a reference list are looked up in Crossref and OpenAlex, two public indexes of published work. A deep check runs only when you ask for one, and only on a text the standard detector read as human. Messages you send through the support, contact or quote forms may be sent to Anthropic (Claude) to draft a reply. A person approves replies before they are sent. Message text is not kept in our logs. Whether you get the free Education plan depends on your email address. To check it, we send Google, through Gemini on Google Cloud's Vertex AI in our own project, the domain of your address (the part after the @, never the rest of it) and what the domain's public home page returns: its web address after any redirect, its status code, its title, its description and up to 2,000 characters of its text. If the page does not answer, we send the error instead. Gemini says whether the domain belongs to a school. Gemini may use Google Search grounding for this, which means it looks the school up on Google Search. Google keeps those search queries for up to three days. The decision is emailed to you through Mailgun. A domain decided recently is not looked up again. Pro, Max and Department are paid by card through Stripe. Stripe holds your card details; we do not see them.
What do you know about my account?
Your email address, your plan and usage counts, the first link that brought you here if there was one, and your checks while history is on.
What if I'm not signed in?
One check a day is allowed per address, and your browser keeps the text for up to 7 days so you can sign in and make a link.
What does a verification link keep?
The result, the date, the word count, the models that read the text, and a keyed fingerprint of the text.
What cookies do you set?
Only what Firebase uses to keep you signed in, plus two local-storage records described in the privacy policy. None for advertising or tracking.
How do you know my school qualifies for the Education plan?
By the email address you sign up with. We send its domain and what that domain's public home page shows to Google's Gemini, which may look the school up on Google Search, and we email you the decision.
How do I delete my account, and what does that remove?
Use the contact form and choose "Privacy or deleting data", or email hello@olive.is. That removes your sign-in, your checks and your links.
